Anticode vs Divi: a WordPress theme with Divi AI, or a site built and hosted for you

Divi is a WordPress theme and visual builder from Elegant Themes, sold per year or once for life on unlimited sites, with Divi AI to draft layouts, text, images and code. Anticode builds and hosts the site itself, so there is no theme, plugin or WordPress update to manage. For a web designer building many WordPress sites, Divi's licence is hard to argue with; for one business site you'd rather not maintain, Anticode suits.

The short answer

Divi suits people who already work in WordPress and want one licence for every site they build: a visual builder for headers, footers and pages, a large layout library, and AI that writes inside the builder. Anticode suits people who want the finished site without owning a WordPress install: it plans and designs the pages from a description, hosts them, and won't publish until design and security checks pass.

How a Divi site comes together

Elegant Themes' Divi page describes full-site, drag-and-drop editing in Divi's visual builder, covering everything from headers and footers to individual pages, with premade templates, AI-powered Quick Sites and Divi Cloud for storing layouts. Divi 5 is the current version. Its Divi AI page says Divi AI can create whole websites and pages from a prompt, write and refine text, generate and edit images, and write code and CSS within the visual builder, and that you can store brand colours and fonts as an AI style. A newer Divi AI Agent builds and manages the site through natural language in the same builder.

All of that runs on WordPress, which you install and host, along with any plugins you add. With Anticode you skip that stack. The Architect asks up to three questions that affect the build, the Designer chooses one of seven design systems with one font family and one action colour, and the Critic's nineteen checks look for the patterns that make sites feel generated before the design gate lets the page go live.

Licences and what Pro adds

As of 24 October 2026, Elegant Themes' pricing page lists prices in dollars without naming the currency. Divi is $89 billed yearly for the theme and builder on unlimited websites, with updates and support. Divi Lifetime is a single $249 payment for lifetime access on unlimited sites. Divi Pro is $277 billed yearly and bundles Divi AI with unlimited layout, text, image and code generation (agent usage excepted, with $60 a year of agent spend included), unlimited Divi Cloud storage, VIP support and four Divi Teams members. Elegant Themes offers a full refund within 30 days.

Divi's licence pays for software; hosting, a domain and any premium plugins are separate costs. Anticode's plans include hosting and forms, add your own domain on paid plans, and charge by building allowance rather than by site. Agency workspaces are white-label, with no Anticode branding on client sites. Amounts are on pricing.

Upkeep after launch

A Divi site needs what any WordPress site needs: core, theme and plugin updates, a host that handles backups and firewalls, and someone to notice when an update breaks a layout. Divi licences include Divi Dash for managing updates, themes and plugins across many sites, which helps if you look after a portfolio of clients.

An Anticode site has none of those moving parts. Published design-engine pages run no scripts, the server re-runs the checks that matter at publish so a modified browser can't skip them, the last ten published versions are backed up, and each site serves a security report at /.well-known/anticode-security. Forms are built in, sealed at rest and sent on to email or connectors. See the security report for what it covers.

Where Divi is the better choice

  • Many sites, one licence. Unlimited websites on a yearly or lifetime licence.
  • WordPress flexibility. Any plugin, WooCommerce, user accounts and your choice of host.
  • Hands-on design. The visual builder lets you shape every module, and AI styles hold your brand.
  • A single payment. The lifetime option means no yearly renewal for the software.

Where Anticode is the better choice

  • No WordPress to run. No updates, plugin conflicts or host to choose.
  • Checks before going live. Accessibility basics and twelve security checks must pass.
  • Bookings and forms included. A booking calendar and contact forms that deliver without plugins.
  • A standard export. Take the site as one HTML file or a Next.js project.

Who should pick which

A freelancer or studio building WordPress sites for clients, especially one comfortable with hosting and updates, will get a lot from a Divi Pro or lifetime licence. A business owner who wants one site and no maintenance, or an agency that wants to deliver white-label sites without managing WordPress, will find Anticode simpler. Other options are in Divi alternatives.

Anticode's limits

No WordPress import, plugins or visitor accounts on design-engine sites, no shopping cart beyond one payment link per account, and no embeds or video on design-engine pages. Built-in forms have fixed fields, with custom forms tied to a site function for anything else; bookings use six fixed times with no deposits or calendar sync. The builder is English only. Divi facts above come from Elegant Themes' own pages on 24 October 2026.

Questions people ask

Is Divi a page builder or a theme?

Both. Elegant Themes sells the Divi theme with its visual builder, and also a Divi Builder plugin that works with other WordPress themes.

Does Divi AI cost extra?

Divi AI is included with Divi Pro, which is billed yearly. Elegant Themes says unlimited generation excludes AI Agent usage, which draws on a yearly agent spend.

Can I move a Divi site into Anticode?

Not automatically; there's no WordPress import. Describe the site to Anticode and paste your text into the result.
