Anticode vs Elementor: a drag-and-drop WordPress builder, or a site without WordPress

Elementor is a drag-and-drop page builder for WordPress, with AI that drafts pages inside the editor and its own WordPress hosting. Anticode leaves out WordPress, themes and plugins entirely: it builds the site from a description and publishes pages that contain no scripts. If you want WordPress's ecosystem and pixel-level control, Elementor; if you want nothing to update or patch, Anticode.

The short answer

Take Elementor if you're comfortable with WordPress or work for clients who are: you get a visual editor with fine control over every widget, a theme builder for headers, footers and templates, WooCommerce for a real store, and thousands of plugins. Take Anticode if you'd rather not run WordPress at all: no plugins to keep current, no PHP, and published pages that are plain HTML and CSS, checked for design and security problems before they go live.

What you're actually running

Elementor's website builder page describes it as a website builder for WordPress, now in version 4: a live drag-and-drop editor with more than 100 widgets, AI that prompts full pages and generates a starting design system of colours, fonts and classes from a screenshot, and an MCP server so Claude, Cursor or Codex can build editable Elementor layouts. Some AI features, such as building forms and dynamic loops, require Elementor Pro.

Under it sits a normal WordPress install, so the site is PHP, a database, a theme and plugins, each with its own updates. Anticode has none of those layers. The Architect plans the site with you, the design engine writes HTML and CSS in one of seven design systems, and pages from the design engine are served with a policy of script-src 'none', so there's no JavaScript on them to exploit.

Plans and what they unlock

Elementor's pricing page lists plans billed annually that renew at the regular rate, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. The page loads its prices with scripts, so we couldn't read the amounts on 24 October 2026 and have left them out. The structure is clear, though: Essential covers one site and includes the form builder, but form submissions aren't available on that plan, and neither are the popup builder, custom code or e-commerce features; Advanced Solo (one site), Advanced (three sites) and Expert (25 sites) include them. Elementor One adds a shared pool of 25,000 monthly credits for AI, image optimisation, accessibility fixes, a cookie consent banner, transactional email and a site management dashboard.

Anticode's plans aren't counted in sites. Each has a daily and weekly building allowance with a quote before every build; hosting, forms and your own domain on paid plans are included. Amounts are on pricing.

Hosting, updates and backups

With Elementor you choose a WordPress host, or use Elementor Host, which runs on Google Cloud with a Cloudflare Enterprise CDN, SSL, a web application firewall, automatic security updates, staging and daily backups (21 days on the single-site Cloud plan we read), plus a free domain for the first year and free migration.

Anticode hosts every site it publishes, on name.anticode.dev or your own domain over HTTPS. The last ten published versions are backed up, file hashes recorded at publish are checked by an hourly scan that reaches each site about once a day, and version history lets you preview and restore earlier saves. The security checks run on the exact HTML that ships, and failing pages can't be published.

Where Elementor is the better choice

  • You want WordPress. Plugins, themes, users and the wider WordPress ecosystem stay available.
  • A real online store. Elementor's e-commerce features, included from Advanced Solo, are built for WooCommerce stores.
  • Pixel-level control. Every element, motion effect and global variable is yours to set.
  • Moving hosts later. A WordPress site can go to any WordPress host.

Where Anticode is the better choice

  • Nothing to patch. No plugins, PHP or theme updates; published pages run no scripts.
  • No layout work. The site arrives designed, with type, colour and spacing decided.
  • Forms that already deliver. Submissions are saved, sealed and sent on, with no form plugin.
  • Code outside WordPress. Export one HTML file or a Next.js project.

Who should pick which

A web designer who sells WordPress sites, or a shop that needs WooCommerce, belongs on Elementor. A small business owner who has had a WordPress site go stale, or a freelancer who wants a site without a maintenance plan, will find Anticode less work. If that's you, moving a small WordPress site covers the steps, and Elementor alternatives lists other routes.

Anticode's limits

No plugins, no WordPress import, no shopping cart, inventory, shipping or tax handling, and one payment link per account. You can't hand-add elements or scripts in the code editor, design-engine pages can't embed widgets or play video, and the CMS has no comments, RSS or scheduling. The builder is English only. Elementor facts above come from its own pages on 24 October 2026.
