Stripe Connect Express in a website builder, and where Anticode stands

Some website builders take card payments on your behalf through Stripe Connect: you open a Stripe Express account through the builder, buyers pay on the builder's pay pages, and the money reaches your account minus any platform fee. Anticode doesn't offer this today. A version has been built but is switched off, so Anticode sites take payment through a payment link from your own provider instead.

The short answer for Anticode users

If you want to sell from an Anticode site now, create a checkout link in your own Stripe account (or PayPal, Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy, Shopify or Whop), save it in the payment-link connector and republish. Your pricing and buy buttons then open that checkout. The Stripe Payment Links page walks through it. Nothing on a published Anticode site uses Stripe Connect, and we aren't giving a date for switching it on.

What Stripe Connect is

Connect is Stripe’s product for platforms that move money for other businesses: marketplaces, booking tools, and site builders with built-in checkout. A Stripe Connect Express website builder is one that opens an Express account for each site owner. The platform holds a Stripe account; each seller gets a connected account underneath it. When a buyer pays, the platform decides how the payment is created and can keep an application fee before the rest reaches the seller. Stripe's after-payment guide notes, for instance, that payment links used with Connect can split a payment by taking application fees.

What an Express account is

Express is one of Stripe's connected account types. According to Stripe's Express accounts documentation, the platform manages payout schedules, the flow of funds and branding, while Stripe handles onboarding, account management and identity verification. Sellers get the Express Dashboard to see their balance, payouts and payments. Onboarding works through one-time account links: the platform sends the seller to a Stripe-hosted flow, and Stripe redirects them back when they leave it, whether or not every requirement is met yet.

One point from the same page matters if you're comparing builders: a platform is responsible for losses on Express accounts, so it has to vet sellers for fraud. Stripe also revises its connected-account options from time to time, so check its current documentation rather than older write-ups. That responsibility is one reason builders are cautious about switching on built-in payments.

How a Connect checkout in a builder usually works

  1. You start onboarding from the builder's dashboard and complete Stripe's identity, bank and tax questions on Stripe's pages. The builder doesn't see those details.
  2. You add products and prices in the builder.
  3. Buyers click a buy button, land on a pay page and complete payment on Stripe's checkout.
  4. The builder records the order once Stripe confirms the payment, typically from a verified webhook event.
  5. Money settles in your connected account and pays out to your bank on the schedule the platform sets, less Stripe's fees and any platform fee.

Platform fees, in general

Builders that process payments through Connect often take a percentage on top of Stripe's own processing fees, sometimes lower on paid plans. When you compare, add both together and check whose name appears on the buyer's card statement. With a payment link from your own provider, the fees are simply your provider's, set in your agreement with them. For Anticode's plans, see pricing.

Questions people ask

Can I connect my Stripe account to Anticode?

Not as a connected account. Create a Stripe Payment Link in your own account and save it in the payment-link connector.

Is Stripe Connect a requirement to sell with Stripe?

No. Payment Links, Checkout and invoices work from an ordinary Stripe account.

Will Anticode's pay pages launch?

There's no date. If that changes, this page and the pricing page will say so.
