Anticode vs Square Online: a store tied to Square tills, or a designed site with a shop
Square Online, which Square now calls simply websites, is an online store that shares its catalogue, stock and customers with Square Point of Sale, with pickup, local delivery and shipping built in. Anticode builds a designed, checked site from a description and takes payment through a link from your own provider. Shops already on Square tills fit Square; service businesses wanting a site with a small shop fit Anticode.
The short answer
If you already take payments in person with Square, Square Online is the natural choice: your items, stock and customer records carry over, and online orders sit next to till sales. If you sell services, a few products or bookings, and care more about how the site reads and looks than about stock across locations, Anticode builds the whole site from a sentence and holds it to a design system and a set of checks before anyone sees it.
What each one is for
Square's online store page is built around one integrated system. The store connects to Square Point of Sale for a single view of the business, inventory is managed across every location and channel so you don't oversell, and customer data such as sales history and loyalty points sits in one directory. You can import items directly from Square POS, choose a single ordering page or a multi-page store, offer shipping with real-time rates, free in-store pickup and local delivery by courier or your own staff, sell eGift cards, and let customers create accounts to track orders. Its FAQ says Square Online was renamed websites, with the same features.
Anticode is a website builder first. The Architect turns a short description into a plan, then the design engine builds a landing page, portfolio, booking site or small store in one of seven design systems, with optional pages such as Shop, Services, About and Contact. Buy and pricing buttons open a checkout link from Stripe Payment Links, PayPal, Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy, Shopify or Whop.

How you pay
Square's prices are loaded into its pages by script, so we couldn't read amounts on 24 October 2026 and haven't quoted any. What the pages do say: the store page's FAQ says the Square Free plan has no monthly fees or startup costs, just a processing fee when you make a sale. The Square pricing page lists Square Plus and Square Premium with lower processing fees, more marketing texts and, on Premium, 24/7 priority support, plus custom pricing through Square Pro for businesses processing over $250,000 a year.
Anticode charges for building rather than for sales. Each plan has a daily and a weekly allowance, measured by what each build cost, with a quote first and no charge for failed builds. Card fees are whatever your own payment provider charges. Amounts are on the pricing page.
Domains
Square's help article on connecting a custom domain names Square Online Plus and Premium subscribers, and Square Plus and Premium subscribers, as eligible. It covers buying a domain through Square, connecting one you own elsewhere automatically or by DNS, and says SSL comes with any connected domain, taking up to 24 to 48 hours for a third-party one. Anticode connects your own domain on paid plans by CNAME or TXT verification and issues the certificate automatically; it doesn't redirect between www and the bare domain, so connect the one you want people to use.
