Wix alternatives for people who want to take their site with them

The first thing to know when comparing Wix alternatives is that a Wix site can't be moved: Wix says it has to run on Wix's servers. Leaving means rebuilding, so the useful questions are what you can carry across (your domain, CMS data, product lists), which tool suits the rebuild, and whether Wix's built-in business tools are worth keeping.

Why people look at Wix alternatives

Two reasons can be checked directly against Wix's own pages. The first is ownership. Wix's help article on exporting a site says a site needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers because its architecture doesn't support external hosting. You can bring a domain bought elsewhere, but the site itself can't leave. For someone who wants a copy of their site's code, that settles it.

The second is how a site begins. Wix's AI website builder generates pages, layout, copy and visuals from a description, and its newer Harmony editor pairs that with an AI agent called Aria and manual design control. That's a real change from template-first editing, so if a template feel was your complaint, try Harmony before you leave. Cost is the third, less common reason. As of 24 October 2026 the plans page shows Light at $17.77, Core at $29.77, Business at $39.77 and Business Elite at $159.77 a month on yearly billing, with US dollar prices shown for reference and varying by location; payments and scheduling start at Core.

What to take before you rebuild

Because the site doesn't export, collect its parts one by one while your plan is still active:

  1. CMS collections. Wix lets you export a collection as a CSV file. Do this for every collection, including ones that feed team pages or menus.
  2. Blog posts. Wix says it is not possible to export blog posts to other platforms, so copy each post's text and download its images by hand. Note each post's URL as you go.
  3. Store products. Export the product list from the store dashboard so you have names, descriptions, prices and options in one file.
  4. Form submissions and contacts. Download what you hold, and note where each form currently sends its replies.
  5. The domain. If Wix is the registrar, its transfer guide explains the EPP code, the 60-day lock after recent changes, and that business email stops until you re-add its MX records. You can also keep the domain where it is and only repoint its DNS.

Then map old URLs to new ones and set up 301 redirects on the new site, so links and search results don't break. Our Wix migration workflow walks through the order to do it in.

Where Anticode fits after Wix

Anticode answers the ownership question directly. Every project exports as a single self-contained HTML file or as a standard Next.js project with TypeScript, Postgres through Prisma, and server routes for bookings, contact and newsletter forms, with no Anticode runtime inside. You can push the Next.js version to a GitHub repository you choose. If you stay on Anticode's hosting, you still have that copy.

The build starts from what you tell the Architect about the business, not from a template gallery, and the published pages carry no scripts. Your Wix CSV files are useful here: CMS collections in Anticode have typed fields and serve their own pages at /<collection>/<slug>, so a team list or a menu has somewhere to live. Forms save submissions and can pass them to Google Sheets, Airtable, Notion, HubSpot, Slack and others. See the CMS collections page for how entries are edited.

What Anticode won't replace

Be clear-eyed about Wix's breadth. Its AI builder page lists stores with inventory management, scheduling, blogging, email and social campaigns, contact management and automations, and its App Market adds more. Anticode has no cart, inventory or shipping (buy buttons point at a payment link from Stripe, PayPal, Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy, Shopify or Whop), no visitor accounts or member areas on published sites, no blog comments, RSS or scheduled posts, no email campaign sending, no app marketplace, no import from Wix and no redirect manager, so old Wix URLs can't be redirected from an Anticode site. Its builder and the sites it makes are English only.

When staying on Wix makes sense

If your site runs on Wix apps (bookings with staff, a store with stock levels, member logins, a loyalty scheme), rebuilding elsewhere means finding a replacement for each, and the total is often more work and more subscriptions than Wix itself. The same is true if Harmony already gives you the AI-first start you were after. In those cases Wix Headless or simply a different plan may solve the real problem. Leave when owning the code, a lighter site or a different kind of build matters more to you than the tools. For a direct comparison, see Anticode vs Wix.

Questions people ask

Can I download my Wix site and host it somewhere else?

No. Wix says sites must be hosted on its servers. You can export CMS collections and product lists as files and transfer your domain, then rebuild the pages elsewhere.

How do I move my Wix blog?

Wix doesn't export blog posts, so copy each post and its images manually, keep a list of the old URLs, and redirect each one to its new address.

Are there Wix AI alternatives that build from a description?

Several tools do, Anticode included. Wix's own AI builder and Harmony editor do too, so compare what each produces from the same description before you move.

Will my Wix business email keep working if I move the domain?

Wix's transfer guide says business email stops working after a transfer until you re-add the MX records with the new provider. Plan that step before you start.
