GoDaddy website builder alternatives: first work out which builder you have
GoDaddy now offers three different website builders under related names, and owners of older sites aren't always sure which one they're on. Before comparing GoDaddy website builder alternatives, find out which builder your site uses and where your domain and email live. If all three are at GoDaddy and working, staying is often the simplest choice; if not, the site can move while the domain stays put.
GoDaddy's three builders
GoDaddy's help article Which GoDaddy website builder do I have?, as we read it on 24 October 2026, describes three products:
- Websites + Marketing classic Website Builder
- The original editor included with a Websites + Marketing plan. You start from a template and add and rearrange sections by hand, with some AI help such as text suggestions and SEO.
- Airo AI Builder
- A conversational builder for websites, web apps, games or online stores, described as offering more customisation and code-level control.
- Airo for WordPress
- Included with GoDaddy's Managed Hosting for WordPress: you describe the site in a conversation, then keep editing it in the WordPress dashboard.
The article stresses that the two Airo products are separate and build different things. If you originally made your site by chatting with an AI inside Websites + Marketing, check in your account which of these editors it opens in now. That tells you what you're comparing against.
Why owners look at alternatives
The timing is usually practical. The classic builder works from templates and sections, and Airo AI Builder is a separate product, so an owner who wants a conversational, AI-led build is starting a new site whichever way they go. A rebuild is a natural moment to compare the wider market as well. Airo itself is changing quickly: GoDaddy's July 2026 Airo update added bookings that take payment, domain connection on first publish and logo generation, and says new builders get 50 free AI credits to start. Any of these may be the push to look around.
Keep the domain, move the site
Your domain, your email and your website are separate products, even when they share one GoDaddy account. That means you can usually change where the website lives without transferring the domain at all: you point the domain's DNS records at the new site and leave registration and email where they are. Before you do:
- Save the content. Copy page text, download images and note every page's URL. Don't assume a builder export exists; plan to rebuild from your own copy.
- Save form entries and contacts held in the builder, and list where each form sends replies.
- Write down the current DNS records, especially the MX records that make your email work, so you change only the website records.
- Plan redirects from old page paths to new ones.
- Only if you want to move the domain too, follow GoDaddy's transfer guide: unlock the domain, turn off Domain Privacy, set Domain Protection to none, and note that domains can't move within 60 days of a new registration, transfer or contact change when a 60-day lock was applied.
Four options to compare
| Option | Good for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Airo AI Builder (staying at GoDaddy) | Owners who want a conversational builder and everything in one account | A different product from the classic builder, so it's still a rebuild |
| Squarespace | A designed site with a shop or scheduling attached | Its export is partial if you move again |
| Wix | A wide set of business tools and apps | Sites must stay on Wix's servers |
| Anticode | Small business sites built from a description, with code you can export | No full shop, member areas or email campaigns |
Where Anticode fits
Anticode starts from what you say about the business rather than a template: the Architect asks up to three questions that change the build, shows a short plan, and the design engine builds the pages in one of seven design systems, as HTML and CSS with no scripts. Contact, booking and newsletter forms save submissions and can email them to you; the booking calendar won't accept two bookings for the same slot; and buy buttons can point at a payment link from Stripe, PayPal, Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy, Shopify or Whop.
Connecting a domain you already own works on paid plans, by CNAME or TXT verification with the certificate issued automatically, so a GoDaddy-registered domain and its email can stay exactly where they are; see custom domains. And unlike most hosted builders, the whole site exports as one HTML file or a Next.js project. Plans are on the pricing page.
What Anticode doesn't do
- No domain registration or email. Anticode connects a domain you own; buying domains and running mailboxes stay with your registrar.
- No full online store. No cart, inventory, shipping or tax handling; selling works through payment links.
- Simpler bookings. No deposits, calendar sync or staff rotas.
- No import from GoDaddy's builders, and no email marketing sends; newsletter sign-ups can go to Mailchimp or Kit.
When staying with GoDaddy is easier
If your domain, email and site are all at GoDaddy, the site does its job and you'd simply like a fresher look, rebuilding in Airo keeps billing and support in one place, and that convenience is worth something. Look elsewhere when you want a different kind of design, or a copy of your site's code. The GoDaddy integration guide covers pointing a GoDaddy domain at Anticode, and Anticode vs GoDaddy sets the two side by side.
