Figma Sites alternatives for a published site without a design file first

Figma Sites publishes what you design in Figma, which is a real advantage when the design already lives there. People look at Figma Sites alternatives when they don't have a design file, don't want to make one, or want the site's code to take elsewhere, which Figma says Sites can't currently provide.

How Figma Sites works

The Figma Sites page describes designing, prototyping and publishing in one place: you paste frames from a Figma Design file and the layout and type carry over, then build pages with responsive components, auto layout and pre-built blocks. AI can generate interactions, you can edit the code, and a content view lets collaborators change text and images while the layout stays locked. The product is labelled beta.

What it takes to publish

Figma's pricing page says the Sites beta is available on Full seats, as of 24 October 2026. Its help article on publishing a site says publishing is available on all paid plans and needs edit access to the file; the Education plan includes one published site. Custom domains are also on paid plans, up to ten on Professional and without a set cap on Organization and Enterprise.

The same publishing article states that it isn't currently possible to export a site's code for publishing elsewhere. Your site lives where Figma hosts it.

Why people look elsewhere

  • There's no design file yet. Sites is at its strongest when frames already exist. Someone who needs a business site and has never opened Figma would be learning a design tool to get one.
  • Seats. Editing and publishing need a Full seat on a paid plan, which makes sense for a design team and less sense for one person with one site.
  • Code ownership. With no export, moving away later means rebuilding.
  • Beta status. Some teams prefer not to put a client's live site on a product labelled beta.

Before you choose: what to keep

Even without a code export, a Sites project gives you a lot to carry into the next tool. Export the key frames as images to use as a visual reference, write down your type styles, colours and spacing, copy the text from the content view, and download every image at full size. List the pages, their addresses and their titles and descriptions so you can set up redirects. If a custom domain points at Figma, note its DNS records before you change anything.

Where Anticode fits

Anticode answers the first reason directly: it doesn't need a design file. You describe the site, the Architect asks up to three questions that change the build and shows a plan, and the Designer builds it to one of seven design systems (Editorial, Technical, Luxury, Playful, Brutalist, Organic or Swiss), each with one font family, one action colour and rules for radius by role. The Critic runs nineteen design checks before you see the result. Designed pages show photos from a curated library; to use images exported from Figma, ask for an app build, which uses images you upload, or host them and list them in a CMS collection whose image field holds their addresses, where they show in that collection's own section and pages.

It also answers the code question. Every project exports as one self-contained HTML file or as a standard Next.js project, and the Next.js version can be pushed to a GitHub repository you choose. For agency work, client review links let a client comment on a section of the preview without an account. See the Next.js export for what's in the project.

What Anticode can't do for a Figma team

  • No Figma import. It can't read frames, components or styles from a Figma file; you can't paste a design in.
  • Seven design systems, not your own. If your brand has a precise type scale and grid, Anticode won't reproduce it exactly.
  • No custom interactions. Pages from the design engine ship with no scripts, so there are no scroll-driven or custom-coded interactions.
  • No embeds and English only. Published pages can't embed other services, and the builder and its sites are in English.

When Figma Sites is the right choice

If your team designs in Figma every day, Sites removes the handover from design to build, along with the detail that tends to get lost in it. The locked-layout content view also suits teams where designers own the look and others edit the words. Stay when the design file is the source of truth and Figma hosting is fine for you. Look elsewhere when you're starting without a design, want the code, or are paying for a seat for a single small site. For a direct comparison, see Anticode vs Figma.

Questions people ask

Can I export code from Figma Sites?

Not at the moment. Figma's help article on publishing says it isn't currently possible to export a site's code for publishing elsewhere.

Do I need a paid Figma plan to publish a site?

Yes. Figma says publishing is available on paid plans and needs edit access to the file, and its pricing page says the Sites beta is available on Full seats.

What are the alternatives to Figma Make?

For a published website from a prompt without a Figma seat, an AI website builder such as Anticode is one route. For full apps with a backend, an AI app builder is a closer match.
