Website form to Airtable: a new record for every submission
Anticode's Airtable connector creates one record per form submission in a table you choose. It needs three things: a personal access token that can write records, the base id that starts with app, and the table's name. Each record gets four fields, Site, Form, Submitted and Details, so create those columns before you switch it on.
Prepare the table first
The connector writes to fields by name, and the names must match exactly, capital letters included. Add these to the table (or rename existing ones):
| Field name | Suggested type | What goes in it |
|---|---|---|
| Site | Single line text | The Anticode project's name |
| Form | Single line text | booking request, message, newsletter sign-up, invite request, or form submission for a custom form |
| Submitted | Single line text or date | The arrival time, ISO 8601 in UTC, such as 2026-10-24T09:14:05.000Z |
| Details | Long text | Every field the visitor sent, one per line as name: value |
Anticode sends the request with Airtable's typecast option on, which asks Airtable to make a best-effort conversion of text into the field's type. That's what lets a date field accept the timestamp. Any extra fields you add, such as Status, Owner or Notes, are left for your team to fill.
Create the token
- Open Airtable's developer hub at airtable.com/create/tokens and choose Create token. Airtable's token guide covers each screen.
- Name it after its job, such as "Anticode website forms".
- Add the scope
data.records:write. That's all the connector needs; it never reads your data. - Under access, add only the base that holds your submissions table, not every base you own.
- Create it and copy the token straight away. Airtable shows it once.
The token can only do what your own Airtable account may do in that base, and Airtable's create records reference says creating records needs editor rights on the base. A read-only collaborator's token will be refused.
Connect it in Anticode
- Open the base in your browser. The base id is the part of the address that starts with
app, 17 characters in all. - In Anticode's dashboard choose Connectors › Airtable and fill in Personal access token, Base id and Table name (exactly as the tab is named, spaces allowed).
- Press Save and turn on, then Send a test. A record for a sample message from Anticode should appear in the table.
Each value is checked before it's saved: the token must have the pat-prefixed shape Airtable issues, and the base id must begin with app. A pasted table id or a classic API key is caught here with a message saying what's expected.
How it works in daily use
A website form to Airtable is useful when submissions turn into work: a lead to qualify, a booking to confirm, a sign-up to tag. Group the table by Form, add a Status single select, and build an interface or a view per person. Because the visitor's fields arrive together in Details, the record stays the same shape no matter which form produced it, so contact messages and bookings can share one table. If you'd rather have a column per field, an Airtable automation or formula can split Details, or you can send submissions through the webhook connector to a tool that maps fields one by one.
Security
The token, base id and table name are sealed together with AES-256-GCM, bound to your account and the Airtable connector, and never shown again: to change one, enter all three. They're used only on Anticode's server, to call Airtable's own API address, and never reach the builder or your published pages. If a token leaks, revoke it in the developer hub and create a new one.
Limits and errors
- 422 from Airtable: a field name doesn't match, a field is missing, or a type can't accept the value. Check the four names first.
- 403 or 404: the token lacks the scope, doesn't include this base, or the table name is wrong.
- No retries: each submission is sent once, about a minute after it arrives. A failed one stays only in your Anticode Submissions.
- Create only: records are never updated or deduplicated, so the same person writing twice makes two records.
- One table per account: every site you publish writes to the same table.
Questions people ask
Can I use Airtable's old API key?
No. Airtable replaced API keys with personal access tokens, and the connector only accepts a token.
Will a test record clutter my table?
The test creates one record from "Anticode test". Delete it after checking.
Can I send bookings and contact messages to different tables?
Not with this connector. Use a view filtered on Form, or route through the webhook connector.
