Anticode vs Claude Code: a hosted builder that publishes, or a coding agent in your repo
Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool: it reads your codebase, edits files, runs commands and works with git from a terminal, IDE, desktop app or browser. Anticode is a hosted builder that plans, builds, checks and publishes a site for you. They aren't really rivals, and you can drive Anticode from Claude Code through Anticode's MCP server. The choice is mostly about whether you want to own a codebase.
The short answer
Use Claude Code if you're a developer, or working with one, and the website is part of a codebase you'll maintain: your framework, your tests, your hosting. Use Anticode if you want a designed site published without choosing a framework, a host or a deployment pipeline. If you already live in Claude Code, you can use both: connect Anticode's MCP server and ask Claude to create, change and publish Anticode projects from the same session.
What each one is
Claude Code's documentation describes an agentic coding tool that reads your codebase, edits files, runs commands and integrates with your development tools. It runs in the terminal, in VS Code and JetBrains, in a desktop app and on the web. It works with git, staging changes, writing commits and opening pull requests, and connects to other tools over the Model Context Protocol. The product page says it asks for permission before changing files or running commands.
Anticode is narrower. The Architect, a frontier AI model, talks your request through and shows a plan; the design engine builds the pages; the Critic runs nineteen design checks; Sentinel runs twelve security checks on the exact HTML that ships. Then Anticode hosts the result at <name>.anticode.dev or on your own domain on a paid plan. You never see a build step, a dependency or a server.
Side by side
| Anticode | Claude Code | |
|---|---|---|
| Design approach | Seven design systems, nineteen design checks and a publish gate | Whatever you and your codebase specify |
| How you build | Describe it, answer up to three questions, then edit visually or in words | Ask in plain language; it plans, edits files and runs commands in your project |
| Code ownership and export | One HTML file, or a Next.js project you can push to GitHub | The code lives in your own repository from the start |
| Hosting and custom domains | anticode.dev address free; your own domain on paid plans | Not a host; you deploy with your own provider |
| Security checks | Twelve checks on the shipped HTML; failing pages can't be published | Asks before changing files or running commands; reviewing the result is up to you |
| Pricing model | Daily and weekly build allowance, a quote before each build | Included in Claude's paid plans, sharing their usage limits |
| Best for | Owners who want a published site without a codebase | Developers building and maintaining software |
Using them together
Anticode runs an MCP server at /mcp with OAuth 2.1, and its documented setup covers Claude Code alongside claude.ai and Claude Desktop. Once connected, Claude can list and create projects, quote and start builds, request changes, read and update project files, publish and unpublish, and read analytics and form submissions. Publishing still runs Anticode's server-side security gate, so an agent can't skip it. Edit a website with Claude over MCP walks through the setup.
There's also a CLI: anticode login uses a device-code flow, and you can work on a project locally and sync it. Projects use an open anticode.json format with a public JSON Schema, and /AGENTS.md explains the format to coding agents. While an agent edits, an open builder redraws with an undo.
How you pay
As of 24 October 2026, Claude's pricing page says Claude Code is included in all paid plans and not in Free, with prices in dollars and no currency named outside Enterprise. Pro is $17 a month with an annual subscription ($200 billed up front) or $20 billed monthly. Max is from $100 a month. A Team standard seat is $20 a month billed annually or $25 billed monthly. Claude Code shares each plan's usage limits with the rest of Claude.
Anticode is billed separately, with a daily and a weekly building allowance measured by what each build actually cost and a quote before each build. Failed builds are not charged. Hosting your own Claude Code project is a separate cost with whichever provider you pick. See Anticode's pricing page.
Where Claude Code is the better choice
- Anything beyond a website. APIs, background jobs, databases, tests and migrations in any language.
- Your own stack. Any framework, any host, any CI.
- Existing codebases. It reads and changes a project you already have; Anticode has no import for existing code.
- Full control of markup and CSS. Anticode's code editor keeps only text, section order and colour tokens.
Where Anticode is the better choice
- No codebase to own. Nothing to install, update or deploy.
- Design held for you. A fixed design system and nineteen checks rather than whatever the prompt produced.
- Checks before publishing. A design gate blocks pages that miss accessibility basics, and the server re-runs the key security checks at publish, rather than leaving them to review.
- Hosting, forms and analytics included. Submissions are stored sealed at rest and views are counted without cookies.
Who should pick which
A developer building a product with sign-in, billing and a database should use Claude Code, or a similar agent, in their own repository. A founder who needs the marketing site live this week should use Anticode, and can manage it from Claude through MCP. When the site outgrows Anticode, the Next.js export gives Claude Code a standard project to continue with; see when to move to custom code.
Anticode's limits
Anticode can't work on code it didn't build, doesn't let you hand-edit markup or CSS beyond text, order and colour tokens, has no embeds or shopping cart, and its builder is English only. Sites take payment through links from Stripe, PayPal, Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy, Shopify or Whop.
